Orchestra Audition - Concertmaster

On Sunday 25th of August and Monday 26th of August 2024, an audition will be held for a vacant position as first concertmaster in The Royal Danish Orchestra. 

The vacancy is to be filled as of January 2025 or according to agreement. 

 

The audition repertoire 

Pre-audition by video recording:  

All applicants are asked to send in a video recording. Professional quality of the recording is not required. The video must be unedited and have the applicant’s face and hands visible. Based on the video recordings a number of applicants will be invited to the audition. 

 

The video recording must contain first movement and cadenza of one of the following concertos: 

  • W. A. Mozart: Violin concerto no 3 KV 216 (until bar 151 & cadenza 

  • W. A. Mozart: Violin concerto no 4 KV 218 (until bar 145 & cadenza) 

  • W. A. Mozart: Violin concerto no 5 KV 219 (until bar 144 & cadenza) 

 

The recording must be uploaded together with the application form no later than the 5th of June 2024. 

 

Audition:  

Sunday 25th of August 2024 

1st round: 1st movement with cadenza of one of the following concertos: 

  • W. A. Mozart:  Violin concerto no 3 KV 216 (until bar 151 & cadenza) 

  • W. A. Mozart:  Violin concerto no 4 KV 218 (until bar 145 & cadenza) 

  • W. A. Mozart: Violin concerto no 5 KV 219 (until bar 144 & cadenza) 

 

2nd round: 1st movement with cadenza of one of the following concertos: 

  • J. Brahms: Violin concerto in D-Major op. 77 

  • L. v. Beethoven: Violin concerto in D-Major op. 61 

  • J. Sibelius: Violin concerto in d-minor op. 47 

  • P. Tchaikovsky: Violin concerto in D-Major op. 35  

  • C. Nielsen: Violin concerto op. 33  

+ orchestral excerpts 

Monday 26th of August 2024 

3rd round: Orchestral excerpts played with The Royal Danish Orchestra.

Invitation 

Applicants will be notified via email sent no later than 17th of June 2024, whether they have been invited to the audition. Detailed information about the planning of the audition will be included in that email. 

Recruitment will take place under the Joint Agreement for the Royal Theatre on extensive artistic staff and the Protocol to the mutual agreement of Kapelmusikere between the Royal Theatre and CO 10 and local agreements between the Royal Theatre and the Danish Musician’s Union. 

The first two years of employment is on a trial basis and may be cancelled subject to one month's mutual notice. 

For applicants outside the EU countries, it is a precondition that at the time of employment the applicant has arranged for work- and residence permit in Denmark.
